First day.

So the first day of shooting is over.

I took the dogs to the Vet to get a vaccination so he could go to doggie daycare. I dropped them both off at Downtown Dogs and ran by the Tea Garden to drop some art off for a client. Then I grabbed some hot dogs from Chris & Rob's on my way home so we could eat something.

Then we tried to load up all five cats to take to a friend's house. It was tough. Olivia started freaking out and broke her claw and started to bleed quite a bit. So she got tossed into the bathroom and we just took the four cats. And two litter boxes. You never really understand how just how many five cats are until you load them all into carrying crates.

We got back with just enough time to do a final sweep/vacuum of the house before the crew started showing up. There were two cameramen, one sound guy, a production assistant, the producer and the host. They set up lights, miked us and ran us through the schedule. Then we started filming.

Basically, we just pretended to introduce ourselves, ran through what we hated about our kitchen, did some question and answer about ourselves... that's about it. But everything we did, we did 3 or 4 times for TV's sake. There wasn't a script, so every conversation was different, while still touching on the same talking points, and things seemed to go fairly smoothly.

Except when the host started to sniffle, sneeze and rub his eyes. He's allergic to cats, and although we went through humongous lengths to de-pet our house as much as we could, but it's impossible. So between takes of being happy, bubble-y and problem free, he looked at us, dead serious, and said "you guys got cats." It's was kind of a question, but not really. We were like "well... yes. But not today!"

Then we went right back into happy mode for the camera. But it was obvious he wasn't too happy. It felt a little like being scolded, and I think there was an awkwardness following that moment for the rest of the day.

But for the most part it went great. When we finished, we picked up the cats, and then drove downtown to grab the dogs. We went out to a Japanese restaurant, but the name escapes me. It was ok.

Then we went home and I worked on some freelance stuff for a couple hours. All I really wanted to do was go to bed, though.

Didn't they figure out you had cats when they came to your house to interview you?
