Day two!

The second day of shooting is complete. We actually made some progress this time.

It's always a pain in the butt before we shoot. I cleaned all night Monday. On Tuesday I woke up with a massive headache. If I had been going to work, I would have called in sick. Unfortunately, I can't call in sick to this TV thing...

So I got up, took the dogs to Downtown Dogs, took Oliver to a friend's house, stopped by the Wedge and grabbed some lunch and made it home in time for the crew to start arriving.

The day was quite busy, and we got a whole lot done. We started by removing appliances. Then came the sink, followed by the counter tops, and finally the lower cabinets. All of that was super easy because they didn't screw, caulk, or bolt down a single piece of it. We took all of that out, no tools necessary.

We took down the upper cabinets next, which were obviously mounted to the walls, so it took a bit of work. Some of the screws were stripped to hell, so we basically just tore one off the wall. We had purchased a load of new cabinets, but the uppers were going to be reused. Unfortunately they were so poorly hung that they were unusable by the time we got them down...

It was just me and the host disassembling and moving all that crap.

Lindsay and the host tore off the paneling that was behind the fridge and stove. Easy peasy.

We went outside and filmed me smashing some cabinets with a sledgehammer, to break them down for disposal. We have a canvas waste carrier that can carry something like 3,500 pounds, which we filled to the brim by the end of the day. Once it's full, you call a number and a truck comes around and picks it up. Pretty handy.

We went back inside and Lindsay destroyed the wall around out chimney. Luckily, it is in super good condition, so we can continue as planned. If it were crumbling, moldy or gross, we would have had to come up with a Plan B.

Finally, we tore up the floor, which was a tough job to start. The floor was 4 layers thick, so it was about 2 inches thick, and screwed down every 12-18 inches. But we got it up, which finished the demolition. Take a look...

All in all, we were only working for about 3-4 hours to do all that. And the behind-the-scenes contractor did most of it. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you are assisted by someone who knows what they're doing.

It was quite a bit busier and more exciting than the first shoot. We had less talking to do, and more wrecking. Cool. No turning back now...

After that we went downtown to pick up the dogs, and grabbed Oliver on our way back. We dropped them off and ran right back out to Longfellow Grille to meet up with Atom, who is making a cabinet for us. Adam H joined us, and came to Home Depot with us to pick up new cabinets (for the ones we broke earlier).

All in all, we finished up at around 11:30... Sucky. But at least we got some crap done. Then I watched Avatar (the cartoon) and played some God of War 3.
