The flight was only about 6 hours long, and thanks to the time difference we arrived at 6:40 AM Wednesday morning. We took a bus into Reykjavik and arrived at the Guesthouse Baldursbra. We'd booked a room at Baldursbra for the first and last night. Other than those two nights, we had no plans for where to stay or go.

Our room wasn't ready when we arrived, but it was breakfast time, so we helped ourselves to the complimentary breakfast. It was a spread of cucumber slices, tomatoes, hard-boiled eggs, cheeses and toast. Although it was good, I thought it was kind of a strange offering. I quickly realized that this is the same offering every single place we stayed had, so it must just be what Icelandic people eat for breakfast.
We headed out to explore Reykjavik, which is a Iceland's biggest city but a small one comparatively speaking. It seems like a nice town, but at 9 AM after being up all night, I kind of just wanted to sleep. We just kicked around, walking to the ocean, finding stray cats and getting some tea.

Eventually we ended up on Laugavegur, which is big street with a lot of clothing/music/cool stores on it. Lindsay found some expensive sweater she liked, but didn't buy anything.
We headed back to Baldursbra, showered and took a nap. The room had two small beds pushed together and a sink in it, the bathroom was in the hallway and shared with the other guests.

We brought some sleeping bags. You can get a better price at a lot of the guesthouses if you don't use the bedding. Lindsay used it constantly, like a nerd.
After our nap we felt a lot better and ventured out again for some food. We walked up to Hallgrimskirkja, a massive, striking church that's hard to miss.

We went to the top, and from there you could see the entirety of Reykjavik.

There were a ton of restaurants around, and we had a hard time deciding on any place. Eventually, we found an Italian place for diner called Basil and Lime. The food was good but the service was pretty horrible. A trend that continued through the trip.

We continued exploring until it started to get pretty late, and on the way home we stopped for some cake. Delicious cake.

Breakfast sounds pretty normal to continental Europeans ;-). Some bread, cheese and eggs, some veggies... What more would you want?
